The Difference Between Polycom EX and Non-EX Conference Phones

Posted by Jeff Csisar on

Polycom SoundStation Conference phones come in many different variations. These include analog units such as the original SoundStation and SoundStation 2 conference phones, specific digital models for certain phone systems, and even the newer IP conference phones.

With the older SoundStation units, they came in two different versions. These are the Ex and Non-Ex versions. Ex stands for expandable. Expandable conference phones accept additional microphones in addition to the three microphones built into the unit.

SoundStation Ex conference phones are best used in large conference rooms where there are multiple participants who all need to be heard. It should be noted that the Ex phones can be used without expandable microphones. This allows for users to purchase just the phone and later upgrade with the additional microphones.
